HOW BRAIN FUNCTION RELATES TO SUBSTANCE ABUSE BEHAVIOR AND PSYCHIATRIC ILLNESS

The Mind Research Network (MRN) in collaboration with the UNM Center on Alcoholism, Substance Abuse and Addictions (CASAA) is conducting a brain fMRI study to see how past drug use influences brain function. We are looking for adult men and women who have a criminal record or who have been arrested multiple times in the past who may be interested in participating in this study. This study is being conducted by Drs. Eric Claus and Matthew Shane who are the principal investigators for this study. The study IRB# is 10-315.

Qualifications: You must be an adult (age 18-60) who is currently on probation, parole or pre-trial supervision, or just recently finalizedyour probation, parole, or pre-trial supervision.

If you meet any of the following conditions we regret to inform you will not be able to participate in this study:

If eligible, you will be asked to come in to CASAA and MRN for 4 appointments. The appointments will consist of two brain MRIs and two interviews. Each appointment is about 3-4 hours long and completion will take up to 4-8 weeks. Most people will participate for a total of 10-15 hours.

Compensation:  You will be paid up to $300 at $20.00/hour for 15 hours of your time and at end of your LAST appointment.
